When Avi Oster, principal of Avi Oster Media, broke into the media industry, he faced a very pressing question: how to stand out?
Oster, who enjoys a place at the center of the Manhattan night life scene, is not one to do things small. As an entrepreneur, he made his name in real estate developments, but soon jumped to more exciting fare by backing fashion lines and collaborating with artists, musicians and designers. When he launched Avi Oster Media, he knew he would need to identify a unique niche to stand out in the competitive media industry.
He soon found his way.
Forsaking the usual conventions of a publicity company, Oster chose to do things his own way – with phenomenal results. Oster looked at the way he had built his own business reputation, through networking and charisma, and thought about how he could bring that same opportunity to his clients. Thus, his specialty was born: boutique VIP events that match a client with a high-level network of movers and shakers. Not many companies can boast a product like that.
Rather than something to be purchased in slots, or hidden in viral content, Avi Oster Media treats publicity as something that is living and social. The idea is that any client worth accepting has something to offer – whether it is a charitable cause or an artistic collection – that will only be enhanced by contact with the right people. Drawing on his extensive network and panache for memorable events, Oster conceived of a media company that would simply create red carpet events, put the client in the middle, and stand back. Does it work? Only time will tell, but a long line of clients seem to believe it does.
