For those who are trying to obtain New Jersey auto insurance , many can experience quite a roadblock. New Jersey is looked at by many insurance companies as a “high risk” state, due to many factors. Some insurance companies won’t even write a New Jersey auto insurance policy at all, such as a large, well known national companies such as Nationwide Insurance. This makes it difficult for New Jersey drivers to shop around with multiple companies, especially well known companies, and often these consumers have to search for insurance with a local insurance agent, whether they want to or not.The reason it’s so difficult to buy insurance in New Jersey, at least from an insurance standpoint, is for a couple of reasons. One, there are a lot of drivers who live in New Jersey but drive to New York for work, particularly New York City, which means that for one, they have a high risk commute with a higher likely hood of an accident, especially in a congested city. Secondly, since New York City is a high risk state on it’s own, insurers assume that cars from New Jersey are more likely to be stolen or experience damage from something other than an accident, such as vandalism.

New Jersey residents should have the same opportunity others do and shouldn’t have so many options taken away from them. If insurers are concerned about the potential loss, they should consider looking at customers on a case by case scenario, as not all drivers work in New York.
